Kind of surprising that such a popular and entertaining film, with a good cast, clever story and fun effects, is givin such a poor transfer. It seems to be from the old laser disc. The picture is flat and murky and to me looks much like the VHS copy I had already owend. Again, a really fun entertaining film, but don’t expect normal DVD quality on this one.
Me and my brother were flipping through the TV channels, and nothing was on, I mean nothing. Anyway we got to the Movie Channel (STAR Movies) and saw what looked like the opening credits, and then big blue words came across the screen reading “F/X.” So we watched it, saw if it was any good. Let me say we were pretty surprised! It was pretty obvious that it was shot on a low budget. That made me like it all the more! Becuase you usually get a famous rich director and writers to put together a good action/suspense movie. But those movies, sience the director has alot of money he just figures he’ll blow the hell out of everything. It gets pretty annoying. But that is what I love about this movie. Sense they didn’t have a lot of money they kept the movie good was the writing and directing. Dispite the name (F/X) it is not what the movie reliys on. It relies on a smart plot and even smarter plot twists. You never know who the villian is. Plus the well mantled suspense is a plus. I cant say the biggest part of the plot, but I can sya what it starts with. This aussie dude who makes special FX for movies (hense the name) is assigned to stage an assination on a gang member (but not really kill him, just make it look like he got killed with his special effect tricks. But after that it just takes so many turns, it makes it into a fantastic whodunit. I reccomend this for anyone who enjoys a well written and directed whodunit that will keep you thinking and guesing till the last bullet is shot.

Curse of the Golden Flower, a fictionalized historical glimpse into the brutally complicated politics of Emperor Ping’s (Chow Yun Fat) reign during the Tang Dynasty, shows the viewer just how far a megalomaniac must go to gain and retain power in medieval China. Lavish sets, massive ceremonial displays, and perversely fascinating battle scenes impress similarly to the special effects Americans have come to love and expect from Chinese action films like Zhang Yimou’s previous House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. An intricate plot involving the Emperor’s wife, Empress Phoenix (Gong Li) and their three sons, Crown Prince Xiang, Prince Jie, and Prince Cheng, most closely follows the Empress’s secret plan to force abdication upon her corrupt husband as revenge for his slowly poisoning her with Black Fungus tea. As I write this in August 2008, the documentary BODY OF WAR has yet to come by wide release in movie theaters. I saw the film at an independent screening that included an appearance by director Phil Donahue. According to Mr. Donahue, because of previously unsuccessful films dealing with the new Iraq war/occupation distributors passed on this memoir of Tomas Young, an American soldier a bullet paralyzes.

The fate of BODY OF WAR reflects the reason the failed Iraq conflict continues. Most Americans know there is no valid explanation for invading and occupying Iraq. Yet too few vow and even fewer appear willing to even peruse a movie about it. Tens of thousands die and millions suffer but it does not seem to affect Americans enough for the tragedy to raze.
America invaded Iraq because many in Congress and other positions of power turned blind eyes and deaf ears to the Bush administration’s lies. Today almost everyone wants it to conclude, yet those same men and women in authority let the violence carry on. As long as too many Americans seemingly do small more than wish the Iraq pain would go away, it won’t.

Thus it is no surprise to explore BODY OF WAR passages depicting the abominable health care Tomas Young and other Iraq veterans receive from the government. Unprejudiced as George W. Bush doesn’t want the public to explore coffins with a return address “Iraq,” Congress and he give the wounded soldiers as limited attention as possible. Bush and Congress continue spending billions on death and destruction but Mr. Young receives such insufficient succor from the country he served, it falls on his wife and mother to secure him through the day. And while no force is stronger than a woman’s like, BODY OF WAR shows us even that can’t buy up the leisurely for an American government that won’t steal care of the individuals it sends to war.
At the June 25, 2008, BODY OF WAR screening I attended, Phil Donahue said Tomas Young was struggling with his health. Here’s wishing Mr. Young the best and hoping it will not retract one more death for BODY OF WAR to catch the audience it deserves – and for American soldiers to finally near home.

I have seen this film three times and am dismayed that so few will have the chance to glimpse it because some suit declared it not commercial. I took my children to seek this film and it really affected them.
This is not impartial another anti-war film, it is the myth of what happens to our veterans when they derive home and about the unsung heroes in life. Everyone who supports veterans should feel an obligation to observe this film. Everyone who believes that there are no more unprejudiced decent politicians owe it to themselves to allow Senator Robert Byrd to crush our callousness. Everyone who thinkss they would never sit idlely by while putrid was done in their names, allow this film to effect you deem again. If you worship America, PLEASE PLEASE Gawk THIS FILM AND PASS IT ON TO SOMEONE ELSE.
